Groundplanz is a professional landscape design and construction business, owned by Laurie Gallagher, servicing the Kapiti Coast and the Wellington region. It is a family business with 5 full-timers and two part-timers.

Our focus is on providing the right solutions for your needs and the environment you live in – solutions that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Delivering a quality finish to all our work is our hallmark, and creating natural landscapes is one of our specialties.

We understand how to deal with the challenging Wellington terrain and climate – Laurie’s training ground was working with difficult soils and conditions in the early landscaping of Whitby.

Our landscaping work is mainly based on our own designs, with input from our clients, but we also work with landscape architects depending on the needs of our clients.

The Groundplanz team

Laurie is our project manager. He responds to your landscaping enquiries, listens to your needs and designs solutions to suit your budget. In 2013 he started Groundplanz, after taking a long break from his first landscaping business in Gisborne. In between he was a landscape tutor, wrote courses and industry standards and was a training advisor for the Horticulture ITO. He has an in-depth knowledge of native plants that stems from a life-long passion for tramping.

Casey, Matt, Greg and Callum – carry out the landscape construction and planting work. Casey is a craftsman joiner, and an experienced landscaper of many years, who brings precision and attention to detail to our construction work. Matt has a wide range of construction skills, having completed his apprenticeship in Dec 2024. Greg has an extensive background in both concrete work and carpentry. Callum likes heavy work to keep fit for marathons and ironman events, and provides valuable support doing garden maintenance. All are hard-working and make a valuable contribution to the quality of our work.
Dianne oversees the finances, marketing and HR.
